Celebrating 17 Years Queen of the Meadow

We are excited to celebrate 17 years Queen of the Meadow and share our story with you! 

Our journey began several years prior to 2007 when I officially registered Queen of the Meadow as an LLC. In the late summer of 2004, we immigrated to the United States from Switzerland, drawn by the vast landscape and ample opportunities this country offered. Armed with a business degree from Switzerland, I harbored a long-standing dream of starting my own venture. Our first stop was Northern New Mexico, where I spent two enriching years working for an herbalist. Under her guidance, I delved deep into the world of medicinal plants, learning the intricacies of product development and bringing creations to market shelves. It was during this time that I discovered my true passion lay in processing herbs.

In the fall of 2006, we made our way to Northern Colorado, where the seeds of my own business began to take root. I envisioned a venture that would merge my love for natural ingredients with a desire to involve my three children—Jocelyn, Gene, and Janis. Thus, my mission to create an all-natural, organic line of body care products with plant-based ingredients and eco-friendly packaging was born. Extensive research into ingredients, sourcing, and plant properties paved the way for me to craft unique formulas.

The reception from our community was heartening, and we soon found ourselves showcasing our creations at local Farmers' Markets. As demand grew, we expanded online, eventually venturing into the wholesale market and securing placements in local and national shops. Throughout this journey, I remained steadfast in my commitment to our core values: pure ingredients, small-batch handcrafting, eco-friendly practices, and the nurturing of a family-centric business.

Over the years, our operations evolved from a converted garage to a designated workshop in our Earthship, which my dad and I built, enabling us to operate fully off the grid, solar and wind powered, water collection off the roof only.

We underwent several rebrands, refining our logo and labels to reflect our growth and maintain a unified aesthetic. Amidst these changes, our dedication to quality and family remained unwavering.

Today, my children have grown from being mere participants in our family business to pursuing their own paths while still contributing in various capacities. My oldest daughter, Jocelyn, is a stay at home mom. She has an 18 month old son and is expecting her second baby this spring. When she is not busy being a devoted mother, she creates our weekly newsletters, fulfills orders, and helps in production. My middle son, Gene, is studying to be a mechanic at Aims Community College. His passion for cars is already influencing his little nephew. In the business his main tasks are finishing off products with a label and wrapping our best-selling Lotion Bars. My youngest daughter, Janis, has returned home after spending the past two years in Europe. She is now attending the University of Northern Colorado attaining a degree in Elementary Education. She found her passion of working with kids while being an au-pair in Spain.

Reflecting on our journey, while it demanded time and energy, the rewards have been immeasurable. Each challenge was a lesson, each milestone a triumph, shaping us into the resilient, thriving family business we are today. We are filled with gratitude for each and every one of you who have been by our side. Your support, loyalty, and trust have been the driving force behind our growth and success. From the early days at Farmers' Markets to the shelves of national shops, you have been our steadfast companions, making it all possible.
