Summer has certainly been hot here on the Great Plains in the foothills of Fort Collins, Colorado!

We haven't received much rain, so gardening has been a challenge and has required plenty of water hauling since our cisterns haven't had much rainwater to collect this season.

Even with the challenges, there are so many joys that come with growing our own plants and working with the seasons. One of the highlights of summer is picking fresh calendula flowers every day. We gently infuse them in olive oil for two months before transforming them into our Calendula Body Mousse this fall. Watching those bright orange blossoms bloom reminds us why we love creating natural skincare with ingredients grown and cared for right here on our homestead.

That's our off-grid life—working with the seasons, appreciating what nature provides, and making the most of every harvest. It also means a lot of time spent outdoors with our hands in the soil, caring for the garden, and working with natural ingredients. During these busy summer days, our hands definitely need extra nourishment! Our Lotion Bars have become one of our favorite daily essentials—especially after gardening, harvesting, and long hours in our workshop. A little goes a long way to keep hardworking hands soft and moisturized.

One of my greatest joys has been introducing my grandkids to gardening and giving them their own daily chores. They love picking raspberries, harvesting calendula flowers and fresh dill, watering the garden, and helping with weeding. They also did an amazing job harvesting our fava beans this year, from picking the pods to hulling the beans, although that season has now come to an end.

After a busy morning in the garden and long days handcrafting products in our workshop, we've been cooling off by going swimming together almost every afternoon. Being Grandma and sharing these simple summer moments with my grandkids has been such a gift.

Next weekend, we'll be filming new videos for our social media pages, and we're so excited! It will be a fun family project, and we can't wait to share more behind-the-scenes moments with you. We truly love summertime and hope you're enjoying all the simple joys the season brings, too!
